New Map
The new map for Chapter 5 has debuted, with plenty of different POI's and biomes to explore (as you'd expect). With Winterfest 2023 upon us, it's expected that the level of snow on the map will slowly recede once the event is over.
New POI's
Several new POI's have arrived on the Island, including:
- Ritzy Riviera
- Rebel's Roost
- Reckless Railways
- Hazy Hillside
- Grand Glacier Hotel
A major update to the Island for this Chapter is the addition of a functional train that loops around the entire island. This train, of course, will pass through the new Reckless Railways POI, so expect it to be a hotspot for firefights!

Society Medallions
Five bosses are dotted across the island, and each will drop a Society Medallion when they are defeated. By keeping a Medallion in your inventory, your Shields will automatically regenerate over time, making them highly valuable (and therefore likely contested) items. This effect is exponential, so the more Society Medallions you have, the more your Shield will regenerate with each tick.
If you do hold onto a Society Medallion though, be careful - you'll be marked on your opponent's map, and should you have more than one Medallion, the more precise the pinpoint!
New Vehicle
The Grandeur Trailsmasher SUV will be available on the Island, which will be particularly effective when going off-road!
Cars
'Cars' is a new section within your Locker, and are composed of three different items:
- Car Bodies
- Decals
- Wheels
The OEM Wheels from Rocket League are automatically in every players Locker. Keep in mind that as with every Locker item, Car Bodies, Decals, and Wheels provide no competitive advantage or bonus.
With a Car assembled in your locker, all you'll need to do is enter a Sports Car within Battle Royale or a relevant creator-made Island, and it'll automatically transform into the Car that you've designed in your Locker! It will then keep this design for the remainder of the match, regardless of what happens. Players will only be able to transform one Sports Car per match.

If you happen to own the Octane, Cyclone, Jager 619, or Lamborghini Huracan STO Car Bodies in Rocket League, then you'll also automatically own them in Fortnite (so long as you're playing with the same Epic Games account). This extends to certain Decals and Wheels that'll transfer from one game to the other.
The Battle Pass for this Season also has an unlockable Car Body in the Scorpion!
New Weapons
The Ballistic Shield is a new tool this Season that doubles as a weapon. The Ballistic Shield includes a pistol which you can shoot whilst defending yourself with the shield at the same time. This shield has infinite health, though it'll automatically be dropped if it sustains too much damage.
You can also charge with the shield to knock back enemies and deal damage to them, which can be an excellent way of flushing hiding enemies out of safe spots.
Chapter 5 also introduces other weapons across various weapon types:
- Hammer Pump Shotgun
- Frenzy Auto Shotgun
- Nemesis AR
- Striker AR
- Thunder Burst SMG
- Hyper SMG
- Reaper Sniper Rifle
- Ranger Pistol

The Grapple Blade is yet another part of your arsenal that you can find, letting you aim at a hard surface (or another player) and then grapple toward them! If you happen to grapple another player, you can attack with the Grapple Blade to deal substantial melee damage.
The Cluster Clinger is an explosive you can throw that'll stick to a surface or player, and then pop out several smaller explosives after a short delay.
Big Bang Battle Pass
This Battle Pass allows you to earn XP across Battle Royale, creator-made Islands, as well as the newly-announced LEGO Fortnite, Rocket Racing, and Fortnite Festival experiences.
The Skins for this Season are as follows:
- Oscar
- Vengeance Jones
- Nisha
- Montague
- Valeria
- Peter Griffin
The secret skin that unlocks partway through the Season is none other than Solid Snake, part of the Gaming Legends Series!
Mod Benches
This Season, you'll find Mod Benches inside of Vaults on the island, which will allow you to modify many weapons in exchange for Gold Bars. These mods can increase mag capacity, reduce recoil, and more so are well worthwhile. Not every mod works with every weapon though, so make your choices carefully!

Modded weapons aren't exclusive to Mod Benches though, as you'll often find a modded weapon lying around (as long as it's mod-compatible). These pre-installed mods can still be replaced at Mod Benches. The breakdown is as follows:
- Uncommon - 1 Mod
- Rare - 2 Mods
- Epic - 3 Mods
- Legendary - 4 Mods
Keep in mind that Mod-compatible weapons will not be for sale from Characters or Vending Machines, so you'll need to track them down yourself.
Consumables
The FlowBerry is a new fruit debuting on the Island, which will recover part of your Shield as well as any nearby teammates.
The FlowBerry will also provide you (and nearby teammates) with a temporary low-gravity effect while jumping and falling, with fall damage immunity for the duration of the effect.
Medkits and Shield Potions now begin restoring health/shields immediately, and you can now move slowly while you're restoring as opposed to having to stay still. As a caveat, you will no longer be able to cancel out once you begin restoring, so you'll still need to use them wisely!
Reboot/Revive Update
If you are reviving a teammate and move out of range for one reason or another, the timer will now slowly go down instead of immediately resetting. This change also includes rebooting players, making it a little more forgiving.
Only one squad will be able to use each Reboot Van at a time, and should one squad take over the reboot van with the timer halfway done, they can hijack that timer and reboot their own teammates much faster.

Match Quests
Beginning with this Chapter, Match Quests replace Daily Quests. At the beginning of each match, you will be given three Match Quests to pick from that will expire at the end of that match, making it more pressing for you to complete them. This does however allow you to pick whichever objective you'd prefer to pursue, and not have to worry about other things.
Scaling Structures
Walls that have been built by players will now have a plank that you can use to propel yourself upward, helping both yourself and your teammates, but also anyone that is actively pursuing you.
Improved Animations
Players on all platforms will now experience Procedural Layering and Motion Matching in Battle Royale. This allows for much better animations when transitioning from walking to running (and vice versa), as well as using a weapon, crouch-walking, and changing direction while moving.
Players on PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC will also have Physics Based Animation, allowing for more detailed animations with Gliders. All of the above settings are enabled by default, so you don't have to activate anything in menus!
